Environmental Impacy Assessment
An assessment of the environmental effects of the proposed gas storage project is being undertaken by independent consultants, Environmental Resources Management (ERM). An EIA scoping report has been prepared describing the various issues to be addressed. The scoping report has been issued to a wide range of consultees including parish councils and local interest groups.

The results of the study will be reported in an environmental statement which will support our application for planning permission. The application awaits a decision from the Secretary of State on our preliminary submission for gas storage authorisation. Both the full environmental statement and a non-technical summary will be published here on the project website. Amongst other issues, the EIA will consider:

  • The predicted visual impact of the above-ground developments at Albury (well site), Furze Copse (gas processing facility)and near West Horsley (above-ground tie-in to the gas grid). Photomontages of predicted views of the completed development will be prepared.
  • The impact of construction activities including traffic on local roads and the potential for noise disturbance to local people
  • Impact on natural resources, archaeology and protected species
  • Operational impacts arising from noise and emissions to air and water. Generally there will be few emissions during the operational lifetime
  • The safety of local people.

We would welcome any comments you may have on the issues that need to be addressed by the EIA. Please use the feedback form on our liaison page.
