Liaison
We recognised from the outset the need to consult the community on this project. Activities have included exhibitions, community newsletters and participation in a liaison committee set up by Albury Parish Council. During the appraisal work at Albury Park Wellsite, we have set up a working group with Albury Parish Council to monitor activity and ensure close liaison. We meet regularly with the working group and have also, during April 2009, issued a community leaflet and held a community open evening.
Consultation principles

In line with the Government’s planning White Paper 2007, Planning for a Sustainable Future we have been consulting on our gas storage project prior to applications for development consent being made, and specifically:

  • Consulting local communities and affected land owners on our proposals
  • Engaging with the affected local authorities on our proposals from an early stage in the project development process
  • Consulting other public bodies, such as statutory environmental and heritage bodies and relevant highway authorities.

Responding to consultation
It was as a direct result of early consultation that we dropped plans to drill appraisal wells from a site on Blackheath Common. We also recognised concerns about the potential siting of the gas processing facility on our existing Wellsite within Albury Park because it lies within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Albury

During the early planning stages, we have participated in a liaison committee run by Albury Parish Council which includes representatives from various other groups and neighbouring parishes. This committee last met in February 2009 and will meet again in the future when detailed proposals for gas storage are brought back to the table. In the meantime, a smaller working group has been formed between Albury Parish Council and the company to monitor the appraisal drilling taking place through the summer of 2009. You can view minutes of both groups here.

Ripley and surrounding parishes

Since announcing our proposals for a gas processing facility within the parish of Ripley and for  a pipeline running through several villages, we have sought to engage the communities in that area. Ripley Parish Council kindly hosted an initial liaison session in December 2008 for the various parishes in this area. This group will meet again as and when the wider gas storage proposals are advanced.
